down since 10am CST. We are connected through Chicago.

My google hosted domain mail is up but access to my contact list is down.

They're having an issue or two. Notably, the inability to display or access Contacts, and certain other things (such as the ability to change to the "older version", which only gives errors). Crazy world, when a public mail provider can have such an effect on folks. So it goes.
The same in Italy (only contact list is down)!

I don't stress about it. I backup my google hosted mail weekly. If they're
only down for a couple hours now and then it's no biggie to me, just a
gentle hint from the universe that maybe it's time to deal with some offline
tasks
Gmail is definitely been having a hard time this morning.
Stand by for the comments from the peanut gallery about allowing google to
scan your e-mail, etc.... like last time Gmail had an issue.
It does appear that gmail going down leads to a DoS against the NANOG list.
We don't use gmail for any of our services, but a lot of our ISP
customers use gmail. So when they see gmail being down, they assume
that their internet connection is down or that we are the reason that
gmail is not working.

Thank goodness my Yahoo email account is still working. Don't we have
enough
conversations here about diversity and redundancy at the network layer for
people
to realize it's good to have similar diversity and redundancy at the
application layer
as well? (yes, I have accounts on both systems, and use them both actively)

seems to work ok.
