Why is the community site closed to the public?

I’m curious why the community site is closed to the public, requiring a login to view?

I’m concerned because since I work for Discourse I would love for this site to take off and get lots of visibility. But right now it’s not indexable by search engines, nor can I point people at posts unless they already have a NANOG account.

Also, by the way, have you considered enabling chat for ephemeral discussions?

Thanks for reaching out. Currently, our forum is only open to those with NANOG online accounts. Soon we will expand access and make it accessible to the general public. Sorry for the inconvenience.
