RE: Analysis from a JHU CS Prof

During an interview this evening on NBC, Tom Brokaw asked Donald Rumsfeld (Sec. of Defense) whether the US Military would be willing to provide security personnel on commercial jets. He responded that US Military personnel are trained for war, not to be security or police, and would not be deployed as security for commercial airlines.

That's what the National Guard and FBI are for. FBI has plenty of scary
military-types
to do exactly the same function as a military-scary-type.

Actually, it's what Air Marshalls are for. Part of the US Marshall service,
under the DOJ. And, at least as reported by DIA this morning, they will now
be on all domestic flights (they were already present on most or all non-
domestic flights of US carriers). And yes, they are trained as police, and
trained specifically in plane-bound scenarios.
