Yes “whatever happened to IPv6”?

This should be an interesting Keynote and I cant wait?

Noah

What happened? ARIN insists on you signing away your rights to your PI legacy IPV4 space in order to get any allocation of IPV6 space.

PI holders should get an automatic assignment of IPV6 space if they request it.

People don’t like being extorted. Maybe if they stopped profiteering, people would be more receptive to IPV6. I know we would.

Hi John,

That is not the case. ARIN does this if you want IRR or RPKI for your
legacy IPv4 space (which is not cool), but IPv6 is separate. The
contract you sign for IPv6 only applies to your IPv6 registration.

They do. IIRC, it's explicitly in the NRPM that having ARIN-issued
IPv4 space results automatically approves the requestor for the
minimum allocation. The surrounding rules make it pretty trivial to
get the next nibble up from the minimum allocation if you want it.

That's not what they tell me every time I try to apply - they ask for all sorts of "justification" and network usage maps, etc.

I have tried 3 times and just get the run-around.

John,

Please reach out to me off list so we can take care of this issue.

Thanks
John S.

Hi John,

I got my /44 last year. My documentation wasn't even a page long. The
only thing they hassled me about was changing my org name from
"William Herrin" to "William Herrin, sole proprietorship."

Feel free to hit me up with your details off list. I can maybe offer
suggestions.

Regards,
Bill Herrin
