I just pulled a 2-metre pair of copper between a modem and a DSLAM in the lab, and I can ping things. Total elapsed time 12 minutes (I stopped on the way for coffee). Do I win $5?

I think your disqualified for not wrapping it in black trash bags, pink bubble wrap, or duck tape like we've seen some other vendors do in recent months on nanog.
Heh, yesterday I received notification from Verizon that they replaced plastic bags, bubble wrap and electrical tape with a real enclosure.
i used to pursue leads like this.
now i get SSSS on all my boarding passes.
