MAE-East weirdness on May 13, 1999

Did anyone else experience some weirdness at MAE-East this morning at
about 9:30-10:00am Eastern? All of our circuits were up, but BGP had
an unusually difficult problem maintaining sessions. The same thing
happened again around 1:00-2:00pm Eastern this afternoon.

Lots of "me too's" but no one knows why. So does anyone know why?

Alien packets on the Gigaswitchs? Denial of Service attack? Y2K?

Is this the episode where Fox Mulder discovers that the Internet is really a
tool for alien communication by encoding extraterrestrial DNA into tcp/ip
packets?

It has come to my attention that MAE-EAST must have been built
on ancient indian burial grounds.

I would have a tendancy to believe it......

Also heared that DRA is the provider to The North Pole. I would
thus think that Sean would have access to the FLA sled.....

Notice how the NEVER have an outage and yet Santa gets his packages
delivered, kids get their emails to him on time, etc. One hell of
an SLA from DRA it would seem!!!

Sorry if I missed it but, does anyone have the RFC number for encoding
extraterrestrial DNA into tcp/ip packets?

I would hate to be non-conforming.

P.S. Is it true that Sean Donelan has become the first nationwide,
tier-one backhoe provider(tm)(c)?

We're getting there... Vint says:

http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-isoc-internet-for-everyone-00.txt

"By 2008 we should have a well-
functioning Earth-Mars network that serves as a nascent backbone of
an interplanetary system of Internets - InterPlaNet is a network of
Internets! Ultimately, we will have interplanetary Internet relays
in polar solar orbit so that they can see most of the planets and
their interplanetary gateways for most if not all of the time."

Interactive response sure would be hell wouldn't it.

I get frustrated dealing with a telnet session across a ~500ms link -- Now
try seconds or even minutes.

And think of all the timeout values you'd have to crank up. Connections
would timeout "here" before the first SYN got "there".

Maybe we tossed out uucp too soon.

But again.... if we had Sean's FTL sled.....

Is anyone else still seeing problems @ MAE-E? We are still seeing issues that appear to be similar to yesterday's problems...
