MIXng GE at nasa ames.
The Slac guys have played with it some - there is a recent
paper here:
http://www.epm.ornl.gov/~dunigan/netperf/bulk.html
Our local slac data users haven't found it useful since I2
bandwidith is currently available -

Yes. Works just nicely between Cisco and Extreme Networks. Only bad thing
is that the 3GE for the GSR only has max 2450 MTU. Highly disappointing.
The PA-GE has 4470, the 1GE for GSR has 9180, the 3GE for the GSR has
2450.
We do on router-router links internally.

Why?

Partially because I can. Partially because there seems to be a
performance increase when you start stuffing the pipe.
In case of tunneling it's nice not to have to resort to fragmentation.
We use it extensively, since all we do is VPNs, and path MTU discovery is
broken in too many places. This allows us to carry unfragmented 1500 byte
packets inside tunnels. It does mean you have to get all the 10 & 100 Mb
ethernet paths out of the picture. FDDI, GigE, ATM, Frame, PPP p2t, token
ring (gag #!@) are alternatives.
It's funny, so laugh.
