It seems like the latest MyDoom worm variant has caused a bit of an Internet storm. Google, at this time (12:28 EDT), is returning 503 errors on all queries submitted from certain locations. The MyDoom variant searches the user's address book for email domains (i.e. @yahoo.com) and searches various engines (such as Google) for email addresses in that domain."

Agreed.

Operational in the context that it's a response to a network traveling worm, and will generate customer calls.

Yes. The issue being experienced is apparently being caused by:

Symantec, F-PROT, AVG (and others ) have released new definitions to cover the
new MyDoom variant - it will require manual downloading and updating.
Doug
perhaps he was googling for their mail address to report the problem?

Don't know about customer calls, but I'm having a killer day with my mailbox.
Almost a thousand messages which looks like bounces trying to send email
to my mailbox but in reality all worms containing .zip and other attachments.
None of other viruses caused so many copies of itself mailed to me in such
a short period of time, this is like 10 times what I remember from Nimda
explosion.

Perish forbid! Viruses? spam? DOS? network operational issues?
Of course not.
Sending a "break" to a 2511? Now _there_ is an operational
issue! (Wonder if he knows you have to plug a VT52 in to make it work?)
