Geektools SuperWhois update (re: Internic)

As you by now know, as of two hours ago (Dec 1, EST) Network Solutions
changed their whois to "the new form". NSI being their normal secretive
selves, it appears that their new whois servers are not giving out the
"correct" information. They show the authoritative whois server for
their registrar as, which, of course, shows the same
info as crsnic.

$ whois

Whois Server Version 1.1

Domain names in the .com, .net, and .org domains can now be registered
with many different competing registrars. Go to
for detailed information.

The Registry database contains ONLY .COM, .NET, .ORG, .EDU domains and

It appears that does give the detailed whois
data. We can't tell if this is an oversight, or on purpose.

We've updated geektools superwhois (both the GUI at
and the command line proxy at to use when appropriate. This 'breaks' the normal
operation of SuperWhois which correctly looks at crsnic first, then the
referred server. In this case, crsnic also says We'll
watch the bouncing ball, and when crsnic starts giving the correct
answer (whether or another) we'll undo the

The source tarballs are updated also, showing version 2.2.2. If NSI
pulls something else strange, we'll release 2.2.2a pronto.

This is no longer true. For the past 1 1/2 days has been
displaying as the whois server for
NSI-registered domains.

Thanks. It was corrected on all machines by NSI at about 1:00pm EST on
Dec 1st.
We then created 2.2.3 with all the final code. We fixed an obscure JP
handle, and ARIN handle bug today, and the final source tarball is up as
2.2.4. If you downloaded and use your own copy of the proxy, please
download the latest version. Users of the proxy will
automatically use the latest proxy, of course.

One quick note for spam fighters - querying geektools for any domain,
followed by the word "abuse" will return the latest know abuse contacts
from John Levine's database.

As in:

$ whois " abuse"
$ whois -h " abuse"

Initial server used for this query:

GeekTools WHOIS Proxy v2.2.4
