Broadwing

All,

I'm considering using Broadwing for some IP transport and am interested
in hearing feedback from anyone else who is currently using them.
Reliable/Unreliable, Good service?

Just remember that Broadwing is not actually a Tier 1 provider. They are a
Tier 2 striving to become a Tier 1. When I was looking at them, I found
that you could obtain just as good or better pricing from an actual Tier 1
provider. Check out Exodus, Verio, and Genuity. Last I checked they were
offering some seriously competitive pricing on OCs.

[snip. Mr. Hansel Lee asks for comments about Broadwing's service]

<banging head against the wall>

Can we repeat this one more time:

Tiers. Don't. Exist.

[And if anyone thinks I'm starting that !@#$ thread again (which I am
most definately *not*), just remember this:

I think the more pertinent question should be more of "Which provider
should you choose that will not be going out of business in the next six
months?"

Last I checked they were offering some seriously competitive pricing on OCs.

That's because they are desperate for any type of customer at this point.
Gotte Chapter 11 coming?

what does Tier1 have to do with anything? it JUST might be a good thing to
be able to have a default route to another player if things start
breaking. the other providers are good, but i dont think tier1,2,3 matter
anymore. what should matter is how they are connected and if they will
have latency on any of their links or links to other players.

Are any of those 3 going to be in business for long?

I visited their DC operations center (Broadwing) in a recent RFP round...

We were left disapointed. The site was very poor, fiber loops draped on
the floor that anyone could snag or trample. Plus their techs were
walking about with open drink containers - which left us a little
uneasy... roll into that that it is only manned 5x12 with pager support
after hours - left us with ruling them out of serious consideration...

On Jul 27, 2001 Karyn Ulriksen spake:

We had 2 T1's from Broadwing in the East SF Bay, but we replaced them
because of pitiful connectivity to non-Broadwing connected sites,
including (and most seriously) our production colo cage at GlobalCenter,
and our other offices which had UUNet T's.

We never got anyone willing to fix the problem, or who could even tell us
why connections were constantly dropped, packet loss was exceeding 80%,
and latency was through the roof.

But then, you said you were looking for OC3/OC12. Maybe they treat bigger
circuit customers better than they treated us.
